My Own Personal Opinion
Ok, I know there has been a lot of hype over James Frey. Personally, I don't care if his work is fiction. I hated A Million Little Pieces. HATED! It was just too much. I read it right before the controversy started and even then I was like, "Nope, didn't happen, he's exaggerating, ok that's just false and SHUT UP ALREADY!" Anyways, I don't fault you if you liked it, but seriously, if people really let a guy who looked like he did in the opening segment of the book, we have serious problems.
There's my two cents.

Know why I didn't read the Frey books? 'Cause they was on Oprah.
I usually don't try things that have been pandered to the masses. Especially if those masses are Midwestern housewives.
And your comment about how fake the book seemed reminds me of the Claymates lawsuit. . .you have GOT to be pretty f-ing ignorant or naive to believe that Clay isn't gay or that James Frey isn't an exaggerator.
LOL Too true.
Some of the Oprah books are interesting, though. I liked East of Eden and the Wally Lamb books. It's definitely more miss than hit with them though. I just like how she was so upset that she was "betrayed" or "lied to" or whatever she said.
The thing about Memoirs is that you allow SOME artistic license, but it was just too much with this one. And if it was more entertaining, I probably would have let more slide. But it wasn't, and I didn't, and I'm done with him. Someone actually tried to get me to read his sequel, and I just looked at them and said, "Um,thanks, but no."
You know he made up his second book too and there's a disclaimer in the front, right?
Of course... still not worth reading. LOL
Anything that admits it's made up, yet is listed as "non-fiction" should not be on the best-seller list.
I find him INFURIATING.
