Clo's Hitchhiking Ways

Ok, I know it's not "literature" as mainstreamers would see it, but I LOVE Douglas Adams, and I think Hitchhiker's Guide, although highly campy, is it's an intelligent campy. I love British humour (notice the insertion of the U. ;o) ), which is probably part of my fondness of this series, but what I think I like most about this book, and truly, the series, is that he didn't really go overboard. He knew how to begin the chapter of the life of these travelers, and where to end it. Perhaps that's how Adams' Hitchhikers series also became a radio show, and if I'm not mistaken, a mini-series of some sort.

The fact Adams picked such a dull, mediocre man like Arthur Dent to hitchhike around the galaxy was classic on his part. (In fact, I truly wonder if he's not the fourth most intelligent lifeform on Earth, rather than the third. ;o) ) But, he still has his moments, like trying to tell the Vogon his poetry was astounding in order to save him from the probability of certain death (thank goodness he had a relation to that phone number). But, for the most part, it's his dullness that entertains me.

I could go on and on, and like I said, it may not be highbrow literature, but every time I read it, I get a good chuckle.

Those are my thoughts. Yours?

The Hitchhikers' Guide has been a radio series on BBC, mini-series on BBC, TV series and a feature-film, among other things.

I think there was also a stage-play and I wouldn't be surprised if someone decided to make it into a Busby Berkley-style musical revue, but maybe that's just me.

I knew that. I just couldn't remember the order.

As long as the musical opens like the movie did with So Long and Thanks for All the Fish, I would be fine with it.
